Stefan Kolimechkov was born on 31 October 1987 in a small town in the south-west part of Bulgaria. Shortly after that his father was promoted and started working as a Lieutenant Colonel, and later as a Colonel in the Ministry of Defence. His family moved to the city of Sofia in 1990, and Stefan started his primary education at the Chernorizets Hrabar Primary School No.163 in 1994.
In 2001, Stefan completed his primary education, and then he was accepted at the Professional School of Textile and Modern Design (PSTMD) in Sofia. He commenced his secondary education there, graduating in 2006. During these few years his motivation for sport, and gymnastics in particular, grew enormously. Subsequently, as a result of this, his hobby became his profession, and inevitably he transferred this desire to the next level of his education.
In the summer of 2007, Stefan passed the theoretical and practical exams, and on 22 August 2007 he was officially registered for a four-year course leading to a Bachelor's degree in Sports Science. His specialisation was in the coaching of artistic gymnastics, in addition to a second specialisation in teaching physical education, and during his studies at the National Sports Academy, Stefan was also working as a gymnastics coach at the Levski Sports Club. After an excellent defence of his Bachelor thesis paper, as well as exemplary results from the state exams, Kolimechkov graduated from the National Sports Academy 'Vassil Levski' – Sofia (NSA) with a Bachelor’s degree in two majors (Sports Science and Physical Education). His thesis, entitled 'Comparative Kinematic Analysis of the Dismounts - Double somersault bwd. stretched and Double somersault bwd. stretched with 360° turn on Still Rings’, enjoyed huge success and was granted one of the highest awards at the Gymnastics Department of the NSA.
Kolimechkov immediately applied for a postgraduate course at the NSA, and on 7 November 2011 he was registered for a one-year, full-time Master's degree course in Physical Education. Having been accepted as one of the top students for this course, his postgraduate education was partly funded by the Government. On 23 November 2012, Stefan Kolimechkov officially became a Master of Physical Education after an excellent defence of his thesis paper in front of the Physical Education Department at the National Sports Academy....
